  • …Said he was told where their camp is
  • …said it took him one week to arrive at the camp
  • …said for one month, he was there with the terrorists trying to persuade his son to surrender
Malam Baba Modu, an 80 year-old father to a Boko Haram commander, popularly called ‘Ba-Ana’, has begged his son to surrender and embrace peace.

Modu made the call in an interview with NAN on Wednesday in Maiduguri.
He said that he was unable to persuade his son to abandon the cause and surrender under the Federal Government’s Operation Safe Corridor.
Recounting his ordeal, Modu said his son was conscripted by the insurgents in 2012 at a farm in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno.
“I lost hope of meeting my son after his abduction in the past seven years. One day, I met someone who told me that my son was alive and mentioned where I can find him.
”I was also told he is one of the commanders of the Albarnawi faction of the Boko Haram.
“I travelled to the shores of the Lake Chad to plead with Ba-Ana to surrender and embrace peace. It took me about one week to get to where I met him.
“When I arrived at the camp, I told them that I am the father of Ba’ana and after series of interrogations, they asked me to wait for him to return from a mission.
“Ba-Ana returned at night, he was marveled to see me, and when he heard my voice; he told his men that I am his father.
“I pleaded with him for about 30 days in a bid to convince him to lay down his arms and embrace peace, regrettably he did not heed my counsel.
“Ba-Ana confessed that he killed many people and believed that the authorities would not forgive his crimes. He also believed that he had committed his life in the course of God.

“I did not lose hope; I will continue to pray God to heal his soul and bring him back to me,“ he said.

Man Utd won't sign Koulibaly in January

The centre-back is reportedly open to a move to Old Trafford.
Manchester United have accepted they'll likely have to wait until the summer to sign Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, reports ESPN FC.
United hoped to land the 27-year-old this month, but so far Napoli have refused to even negotiate for the Senegalese star.
Other defensive options for United include Inter's Milan Skriniar, AC Milan's Alessio Romagnoli and Leicester's Harry Maguire.

Inter plan another Modric bid

Reports in Italy claim Inter are preparing another bid for Real Madrid midfielder Luca Modric.
The Serie A side attempted to sign the current Ballon d’Or holder last summer, yet their bid was rejected.
However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are hopeful of securing Modric’s services this month.
Spanish outlet AS, on the other hand, believe any deal to take the Croat to San Siro would have to wait until next summer.

Okaka joins Udinese on loan

Watford forward Stefano Okaka has moved to Udinese until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old has struggled for game time at Vicarage Road this campaign and will hope to get more minutes during his short spell in Serie A.
Okaka moved to the Hornets in 2016 and has previously played for a number of Italian clubs inlacing Roma and Sampdoria.

Barcelona confirm Todibo signing

Toulouse defender Jean-Clair Todibo has signed for Barcelona on a free transfer.
The youngster’s contract is set to expire this summer meaning he will join the reigning La Liga champions on July 1.
An official statement from the club stated: “Todibo is a tall, right-footed defender who can play at centre back and also in the centre of the midfield.”
“At just 19 years of age, the young talent comes to FC Barcelona as one of the most promising players in European football in his position.”

Egypt will host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations between June 15 and July 13, Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Ahmad Ahmad announced in Dakar Tuesday.
The CAF executive committee preferred Egypt to South Africa as replacements for original hosts Cameroon, who were dropped due to delays in preparations and concerns over security.
Ahmad made the announcement just hours after CAF said it would not do so until Wednesday so that the media could concentrate on the annual awards ceremony in Dakar later Tuesday.
It will be the fifth time Egypt stage the biennial showpiece of African football after 1959 when the country was called the United Arab Republic, 1974, 1986 and 2006.
Egypt only entered the running to host the Cup of Nations when fellow north African country Morocco announced they would not bid to do so.
Morocco were the hot media favourites to replace Cameroon as hosts and Egypt said they “did not want to compete against a fellow Arab nation”.
Egypt boast many international-standard venues with the Cairo International Stadium (72,000) and Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria (87,000) boasting the largest capacities.
– Challenges –
Ismaily, Port Said and Suez are among other possible venues for tournament matches as the Cup of Nations returns to North Africa after a 13-year absence.
he choice of Egypt will immediately make them favourites to win a record-extending eighth Cup of Nations title this year.
They won three of the four previous tournaments they hosted, failing only in 1974 when they were beaten by Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) in the semi-finals.
The star of the current team, Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah, is favourite to retain the African Player of the Year award in Dakar.
Security and weather will be two challenges facing Egypt in the first Cup of Nations to feature 24 teams, up from 16 in Gabon two years ago.
Egypt faces a constant terror threat in the volatile Middle East region and the weather during the tournament is expected to be hot and humid.
Djamel Belmadi, coach of 2019 qualifiers Algeria, said recently that he would prefer South Africa to host the tournament because of the cooler weather conditions there.I
t is almost impossible to play (in Egypt) given the heat and humidity,” he told the Algerian media. “The weather conditions in South Africa are more pleasant.”
Egyptian football official Karam Kordi responded: “It would be better if Belmadi said he was afraid of the enthusiastic Egyptian supporters.”
Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia and Uganda have qualified for the 2019 tournament. The other 10 places will be filled after the final qualifiers between March 18 and 26.
Manchester United striker, Romelu Lukaku, has fired a thinly-veiled dig at Jose Mourinho’s style of football.
Mourinho was fired as United manager last December, following a 3-1 loss at Liverpool.
The Portuguese has since been replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has won his first five games in charge.
Lukaku has also netted three goals in three matches under the caretaker manager.
The £75million striker has been encouraged to face goal more often in a way that suits United’s faster attacking style under Solskjaer, rather than holding the ball up and slowing the game down as a target man.

“He understands what type of striker you are and he plays to your strengths.
“From the first day when I came back in, he did a total analysis -of my game — I was really surprised.
“He’s helped me a lot. He talks to me all the time and I like that. He really wants me to face the goal because he knows that is when I’m at my most dangerous, moving off the shoulder of the defenders.
“He plays in a way that I like to play and also the rest of the team. We are back to ourselves and it’s good to see the players enjoy and win games,” Lukaku said.
